COMMITTEE FOR
THE ADVANCEMENT OF NATIVE EMPLOYMENT (CANE)
The purpose of the Committee for the Advancement of Native Employment (CANE)
is to examine, explore and recommend ways to increase the number of Aboriginal
persons employed within INAC, seek ways to retain these employees and improve
the quality of their employment. To this end, CANE works co-operatively
with senior management and other levels of the department to recommend
and facilitate change to Aboriginal employment policies and programs within
the department, and to address concerns raised by Aboriginal employees.
Affirmation of Aboriginal Affiliation The Public Service Commission (PSC) introduced an approach to affirmation of Aboriginal affiliation. This approach states, among other measures, that effective January 1, 2010, all departments and agencies under the Public Service Employment Act are required to use an Affirmation of Aboriginal Affiliation Form (AAAF) for appointment processes in which the area of selection is restricted to Aboriginal peoples only or to employment equity groups that include Aboriginal peoples The AAAF is a condition of appointment: it must be completed and signed by the candidate before or at the same time as the Letter of Offer.
