Résumé Tips
When applying for a job, first be sure that you meet all essential qualifications presented in the Statement of Merit Criteria. Then prepare your résumé accordingly.
Tips for preparing your résumé
- Tailor your résumé for each job. One standard résumé may not clearly demonstrate how you meet the requirements of different jobs.
- List the essential qualifications from the Statement of Merit Criteria and briefly explain how you meet each one; connect your education or experience to each criterion.
- Be sure your information is relevant, concise and easy to read.
- Obtain permission from people you are providing as references from past jobs. Make a list of your references that contains current contact information such as the name of the organization, title, phone number and e-mail address.
- When applying online, make sure you complete all required fields. Don't worry about formatting, since it will disappear once you paste it into the space provided on the application screen.
- Use a word-processing program to type out your responses, spell-check them and then paste them into the space provided. Do a final reading—spell-checks are not 100% reliable!
