Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) - Marine geomatics in Mont-Joli, QuebecFeatured Job

Job Description:

The marine geomatics student will perform various tasks as an assistant on a team of multidisciplinary hydrographers. The student will receive thorough coaching and benefit from technical training on CARIS BASE Editor or Hydrographic Product Database software or other internal databases at the CHS. The student may work on hydrographic data processing, data validation or paper and electronic nautical chart production.

The marine geomatics student will be part of a young and dynamic team in a stimulating environment with state-of-the-art technology. The student will have the opportunity to live in a richly diverse region bordered to the north by the St. Lawrence River and to the south by the Appalachians and will have access to a number of outdoor activities. The student may also benefit from the public service student bridging mechanism. After graduation, if positions are available and the selection criteria are met, the student can enter a five-year career development plan without taking part in a competition and can embark on a versatile career in hydrography with the CHS, which is part of DFO’s Science Sector.

Level of Education: Post-secondary

Specialization(s):

  • Geodesy
  • Cartography
  • Surveying
  • Hydrographic technology
  • Oceanography

Skill(s):

  • General computer use
  • Windows 9x/NT/ME/2000/XP

Language Requirements:

  • French essential

Additional Information and Conditions of Employment:

The student must be registered with the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) to be eligible for a summer job.

Training:

As a general rule, CHS employees give a training session of one to two weeks.
