Guide for students applying for Federal Student Work Experience Program job opportunities

In order to be considered for Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP) job opportunities, students must do the following three things:

  1. Create an account in the Public Service Resourcing System (PSRS).
  2. Apply directly to the advertised FSWEP Campaign.
  3. Apply to any departmental program(s) for which they wish to be considered.

In order to successfully and fully submit your application, you must follow these steps.

Step 1: Do you have a PSRS Account?

Create an Account/Profile

  1. Go to: http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/fswep-pfete/index-eng.htm.
  2. Click on Apply on-line.
  3. Click on the advertised FSWEP Campaign.
  4. Read the information concerning Departmental Programs (you cannot apply to programs through the hyperlinks found on this page; see Step 3 – Apply to Departmental Programs).
  5. Click on Apply on-line at the bottom of the page.
  6. Click on Create Account located in the phrase: "If you do not have an account in this system, you can create one by clicking Create Account."
  7. Complete the Personal Information and Address Information sections and click Continue.
  8. Create a password and click Continue.
  9. You will then be given an Applicant Number and asked to Create a Password. You must remember both of these as you will have to refer to them regularly to access your account and update personal information.
  10. Proceed to Maintain an Account/Profile.

Maintain an Account/Profile

  1. Go to http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/index-eng.htm.
  2. In the left-hand tool bar, click on Sign in.
  3. To access the My Jobs Menu, you must enter your Applicant Number (for example, S123456) and your password and then press Login.
  4. Click on Create/Maintain Profile.
  5. Click on Program Category.
  6. Select Federal Student Work Experience Program and press Save.
  7. Click on Match Profile to Job.
  8. Select: FSWEP Campaign.
  9. Click on Go to My Jobs file.
  10. In the section Job opportunity (ies) in Progress, complete all the required information under the Requirements column. When the job application is complete, a green check will appear beside each mandatory requirement.
  11. Ensure that the green check appears beside each mandatory requirement and review your application carefully. Once reviewed, click on Submit.
  12. Read the declaration, then select the Agree button.
  13. Read the Important Information and select the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Step 2: Apply to the FSWEP General Inventory

  1. Click on Continue to complete the FSWEP job application.
  2. In My jobs menu, click on View my job file.
  3. In the section Job opportunity(ies) in Progress, complete all the required information under the Requirements column.
  4. When the job application is complete, a green check will appear beside each mandatory requirement. Note: If you wish to apply to Departmental Programs, please proceed to Step 3.
  5. Ensure that the green check appears beside each mandatory requirement. You may need to review your skills before submitting your application. Once you have reviewed all the information, click on Submit Application.
  6. Read the declaration, then select the Agree button.
  7. Read the Important Information and select the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Step 3: Apply to Departmental Programs:

  1. Follow the steps for applying for the FSWEP (Step 2).
  2. Before submitting your FSWEP application click on the Departmental Programs link under the Requirements section of the FSWEP application.
  3. Under the Select Departmental Programs section, read and check off the program(s) that you are interested in and for which you meet the requirements. Press Save.
  4. Under the initial FSWEP application (FSWEP General Inventory) there will now be an additional section for each Departmental Program that you have selected.
  5. Complete all of the requirements under each Departmental Program. A green check mark will appear beside each completed section.
  6. Ensure that the green check appears beside each mandatory requirement. You may need to review your skills before submitting your application. Once you have reviewed all the information, click on Submit.
  7. Read the declaration, then select the Agree button.
  8. Read the Important Information and select the Continue button at the bottom of the page.

Step 4:  Modify application to apply to a Departmental Program

  1. Go to http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/index-eng.htm.
  2. Select Sign in from the left hand tool bar.
  3. Enter your applicant number (for example S123456) and your password, click on Login.
  4. In the My Jobs menu click View My Jobs File.
  5. Under Job Opportunity(ies) Submitted / Federal Student Work Experience Program click on Retrieve.
  6. Click on Departmental Programs under Requirements.
  7. Under the Select Departmental Programs section, read and check off the departmental program(s) that you are interested in and for which you meet the requirements.
  8. At the bottom of the page click Save.
  9. Under the initial FSWEP application (FSWEP General Inventory) there will now be an additional section for each departmental program you have selected.
  10. Complete all of the requirements under each Departmental Program. A green check mark will appear beside each completed section.
  11. Ensure that the green check appears beside each mandatory requirement and review your application carefully.
  12. This step is very important: Click on Submit Application on your FSWEP application.
  13. Read the declaration, then select the Agree button.
  14. Read the Important Information and select the Continue button at the bottom of the page.
