Eligibility Criteria
- Completion, by December 31, 2010, from a recognized university of ONE of the following qualifications:
- Master degree in any discipline;
- Doctoral degree in any discipline; or
- Law degree complemented by an undergraduate degree in any discipline
- Various language requirements
- Applicants must have a record of academic excellence or distinction through:
- Scholarships, such as: Trudeau, Rhodes, Fulbright, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC); OR
- Academic prizes or recognitions such as: the Governor General’s Gold Medals, merit awards, departmental or university awards, or admission to internationally competitive academic programs; OR
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Note: Applicants must clearly describe the nature of the scholarship or distinction and indicate the dollar value, if any, in Canadian dollars.
Applicants must have acquired relevant policy experience in at least one of the following topics: economic, political, legal, social or scientific, through:
- Work experience; OR
- Research, presentations or publications; OR
- Program/Policy development or implementation; OR
- Managerial experience with non-governmental organizations, voluntary organizations, governments, businesses, consulting firms, think tanks or universities.
Note: Applicants must describe the nature of their experience, the context in which the experience was attained, any positions held and their duration and any significant results achieved.
Applicants must have participated or been involved in extra-curricular activities in which they have either taken a leadership role or demonstrated initiative, through:
- Voluntary service to, or leadership in, their community (e.g., student government, contributions in the voluntary or not-for-profit sector); OR
- Personal accomplishment or initiative (e.g. high-level sporting or cultural achievement, founding a business or other organization); OR
- Receipt of community recognition through awards, prizes, or other public acknowledgement for non-academic, non-professional achievement or contribution.
Note: Applicants must describe all community or extra-curricular activities, any positions held and their duration, and any significant achievements. Applicants must also specify the role they played and the context in which it took place.
Non-Canadian citizens are eligible to apply; however, PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANADIAN CITIZENS.
Historically, the Recruitment Campaigns of Policy Leaders have been successful in finding a sufficient number of qualified candidates among Canadian citizens.
Should there be an insufficient number of Canadian citizens found qualified within the current RPL Campaign, all applications of Non-Canadian citizens will be re-visited.
